OUR HISTORY

Catz Angels CARE, Inc is a volunteer, no-kill cat rescue located in Fremont, NE. We take in stray and abandoned cats and kittens in Fremont, NE and the surrounding communities. CARE was started in 2016 by a group of cat lovers who saw a need for management of the community cat population in Fremont. Out of their own pocket, they began to trap-neuter-release (TNR) these local cats. Over the years, CARE has grown in size, budget and services in order to meet the needs of the community.

CARE expanded after the flood of 2019.  During the flood, pet owners found themselves displaced with few places to go for themselves, let alone with their animals. Desperate owners started reaching out; CARE volunteers and board members stepped up to temporarily house these cats. When the waters receded, some owners found they didn’t have homes to go back to and no way of providing for their pets. CARE provided ongoing support to these pet owners, accepting owner surrenders when necessary. It also became apparent to CARE there was a need for a physical location. Thus, was born our shelter, lovingly dubbed “Cat Central”.

While a large majority of our cats remain in foster homes for their stay, Cat Central houses roughly 30 cats at any given time. It also serves as a central intake and temporary holding location for incoming cats. When we intake cats, our goal is to get them any needed medical treatments, spay/neuter services, microchips, and test them for FIV/FeLV before finding them loving forever homes. In 2023, we spent over $101,000 on vet care and medical supplies for animals brought to us. Many were found injured or sick, and suffering. In 2023, we were able to spay and neuter 793 cats and find homes for 516!
